Open Studios is an event organised by, and largely funded by the participants. It is an opportunity for you to speak to artists about their methods and sources of inspiration and perhaps buy or commission directly from them. You also get to see inside the interesting spaces in which they work!

This, the seventh Open Studios North Fife, we have a fantastic selection of participants who work in paint, pencil and charcoal, textiles, glass, mixed media, metal and precious metal, ceramics, wood, stone and photography.

Last year over the weekend we doubled the number of visits to studios from almost 7,000 the previous year to almost 14,000 last year. We're hoping to increase this number of visits again - many of whom had come from Angus, Dundee, Perth, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Stirling, Glasgow and the Borders as well as from within Fife.

– As one visitor put it ‘this event is a great reason to get out and about at this time of year. I’ve explored streets and country tracks I’d never go to normally and had a great time looking at some fabulous artwork.’

– Another customer reported ‘we didn’t plan to buy but have found ourselves purchasing 3 pieces of work – the standard and range of work is amazing!’

– And another said ‘Our children have had a fantastic day out. They’ve made a piece of fused glass, watched pots being thrown and have asked the painters lots of questions about how they achieve certain effects. They’re all fired up to make some artwork at home and hopefully leave the computer games alone for a while!

– One café owner said that he had to close earlier than planned on 2 of the open studios days having run out of food

– One visitor did remark that he’d never been offered so much complimentary wine and cake as he had visiting open studios!

See you there...

For the 7th year running our fabulous brochure is designed by Richard Budd. He is responsible for the beautiful and distinctive design, for supporting us in the beginning when we didn't have enough money to pay him, and for putting up with us when we change our minds about things - frequently! As many of our visitors have pointed out - he is responsible for the main work of art in the event.

Your Very Welcome! – Richard

‘it’s great to get feedback about my work and chat to new and regular customers about it. The discussion often generates ideas for new work.’
– One couple said
‘it’s great to know there’s so much talent in the area – we’re going to keep the open studios brochure and will be in touch with some of the artists once our house renovations are complete.’
